Friday Weigh-In

Starting weight: 281 lbs
Surgery day: 261 lbs
Today's weight: 217.8

-2.2 lb loss

-43.2 lbs loss since surgery
-63.2 lb loss overall

After last week's .2 loss, my scale owed me. It's a good thing no one was there to see me do a happy dance in the bathroom this morning, because I am a terrible dancer.

I was a good lap banded girl this week. Brought my breakfast and lunch to work every day, and refrained from restocking my office candy bowl with Easter Rolos, which I would have eaten all week. I did have one Cadbury egg, which I entered into MyFitnessPal (150 calories, thank you very much) but otherwise held it together this week. I make no promises about Easter Sunday.

Was just reading Mon's post about portions, which reminded me that even though I am getting better at some of these lapbander rules, I still have a ways to go. I have my small plates and bowls, and my smaller forks, but since I'm not in the green zone yet, I am no 1/2 cup meal girl. Last night, at lap band support group, half of them talked about eating 1/2 cup at every meal, and it blows my mind. But I have definitely changed. Below is dinner from the other night.

Sorry if my carbs offend you. I count every calorie and gram
of protein that goes in my mouth. THERE WILL BE CARBS.
And I didn't even finish everything on my smaller plate. My husband got half of my potatoes. Five months ago, my plate would have been as full as his.

Do any of you eat 1/2 cup meals or is that some kind of lap band urban legend?

    1. I can get by with a cup, but much less, and I am a hungry bear. I am jealous of your green zone!

  2. I'm not banded yet (9 more days!) so I sure as heck eat more than that, lol. You seem to be losing at an ideal rate, so I can't see why you'd want to eat LESS than you are? What you are doing now, seems to be working just great for you!!

  3. Must agree with Cheri!! You're looking great and losing pretty steadily. But I do hope you find your green zone soon.

I know what you mean--your suspicions that 1/2 cup meals are WLS urban legend--it seems CA-RAZY to me to be satisfied with that amount of food. Especially now that there's NOTHING in my band and I feel like a hungry belly with a face :)

  4. Thanks ladies! I'm fairly satisfied with my rate of weight loss. But trying to stay within reasonable portions leaves me hungry a lot of the time. Looking forward to the green zone in hopes that I can stop thinking about food so much!

  5. I used to measure, weigh, and record every bite that went in my mouth for the first 8 months I was banded. Now I just eat until I am not hungry...notice I didn't say full. As soon as I feel satisfied (no more hunger feeling) I stop eating. Sometimes that is two bites, sometimes it is 10, and sometimes it may be 20. I also don't live by eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I don't eat until I am hungry (which is never in the mornings). I eat almost anything I want. I do still avoid bread, rice, and pasta and a try to stay on a low sodium diet (due to my bp), but if I want sweets I eat sweets. I know this wouldn't work for everyone, but it has worked for me.
