Disney World

Thoughts on Disney World and Universal Studios: fun, humid, obscenely crowded, long lines, absurdly expensive.

We were delayed on our flight there, arriving 12 hours late and exhausted. It rained on and off, the entire time we were there, sometimes POURING on us. The weather did horrible things to my hair, that are now preserved in photos, and I may never forgive. I successfully ate from the surprisingly good Disney kids menu all week, which was very helpful. I wore my fitbit and logged insane miles, nearly every day we were there (Epcot day was NINE MILES). We missed lots of fun rides due to the long lines and waits being simply too much. Next time, we may save a few thousand dollars and just drive to San Antonio and take the kid to Six Flags. If we buy him enough souvenirs, he may not notice the difference.

And now, some photos!

Much more comfortable seatbelt than the last time I flew.

Me and the kiddo riding flying Dumbos.

At the Wizarding World of Harry Potter - with butterbeer!

How many calories are in a butterbeer? Who cares?! It was delightful!

Immediately after coming back, I headed off to ATX Television Festival all weekend, and did even more walking. Got to go to lots of fun panels and screenings, including Friday Night Lights, My So-Called Life, Vampire Diaries, and Veronica Mars (where I got to meet the beloved creator, Rob Thomas). Super fun times for a TV geek like me.

What have you guys been up to?

P.S. Oh, and in case you missed it, I hit ONEDERLAND last week!

  1. Onederland....wooooo hoooo! We took the kids to Disney when they were younger and I was miserable. We went in July and it was waaayyyy too hot and like you said....very long lines for everything. I never even considered going back again.

    1. The 6 year-old wants to go back already! But unless we could somehow going during the off-season, I'm not interested.

  2. Love the photos, and I love your summary in the first line. It sounds very true to life.

Congratulations on Onederland! Sounds like its own kind of theme park, doesn't it?

  3. I actually think your hair (or you, or both!) looks pretty like that! So Ms Bangs Girl - you can go Bang-less, too! ;-D And yes, butterbeer sounds wonderful - I envy you that part of Epcot! I've never been to DisneyWorld/Epcot, and always wanted to, but now you gave me a few reasons to want to less, lol...would try to go at a non-humid, non-busy time, if there is such a thing! We were at DisneyLAND same time as you, and the weather was perfect and lines were not bad at all, so if you ever get over here, think about it - lines CAN be hellacious, but if you hit the right time because the park is smaller you can work it. (Don't EVER do Christmas for instance - INSANE.)

Oh, and your son is ADORABLE!!! Well, you know I could keep rambling. It was fun hearing about your vacation, the TV festival sounds really fun too! And I'm THRILLED for you hitting ONEDERLAND! :-)

    1. Thanks Cheri! I wasn't prepared to wear my bangs back, and it was too hot for hats! Glad y'all had a good trip too! And my husband and I actually said we'd like to try Disneyland next. Smaller (which is a good thing!), better weather, and we've never been to California.

  6. In the seatbelt picture, is that your purse? BC OMG I have that EXACT SAME BAG in that exact same pattern! How funny is that? :)

Glad your trip was fun, despite the rain.

    1. Thanks Luka Beth! That is one of my many purses! Got it from Alloy I think. It's good for when I need to carry a TON of stuff (like when you know you're going to be trapped on airplanes all day and can't decide which kindle to take, so you take BOTH).

  7. LOL great post and great pics! BTW, butterbeer has 2 calories and 36gms of protein. It's pure wizardry.
